The Society was founded in 2002 by a group of enthusiasts in Danbury, Essex, where Gibbs lived for many years.
Its purpose is to advance the education of the public in the understanding and appreciation of music by the promotion, study and performance of music by the late Cecil Armstrong Gibbs. It achieves its aims by sponsoring recordings and performances of his work, acting as an information source by means of the website and catalogue and by preparing scores of hitherto unpublished works. The first President was Gibbs’ daughter Ann Rust.
